OMV Gas GmbH becomes Gas Connect Austria

The EU’s Third Energy Package and its implementation by the Natural Gas Act are bringing major changes to the Austrian gas market. Much will be different, but the main thing remains the same. Although it is now sailing under a new flag, Gas Connect Austria remains Europe’s gas transportation partner in Austria.

Welcoming change as an opportunity

Gas Connect Austria is the new brand name OMV Gas GmbH will operate under from January 1, 2012. In line with its new role as an independent transmission operator (ITO), the company is committed to avoiding creating any confusion in respect of separate identity of the vertically integrated company (the OMV Group) or any part thereof in its corporate identity, communication, branding and premises. In other words, Gas Connect Austria will be an independent and autonomous company within the OMV Group.

Core values remain the same: responsibility, fairness and vision

Although the company has a new name, its most important asset remains unchanged – the workforce. Customers and business partners can continue to count on a highly professional working relationships with their wonted contact persons. Key services such as the Online Capacity Booking system will likewise be retained in full.

Gas Connect Austria Europe’s gas transportation partner in Austria. The company operates a 2,000 km high pressure pipeline network – roughly the same length as the entire Austrian interstate and expressway network. Besides running the pipeline network, maintaining and steadily expanding it will be key tasks. Gas Connect Austria will market transportation capacity to ensure that the network is fully utilized. Annual transportation capacity sales are running at 89 billion cubic meters – equal to about twice the volume of Lake Constance. In addition to Austria, the gas is transported to Croatia, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy and Slovenia.
