Under the title "SoutH2 Corridor - a path from the idea towards reality", he showed how an originally visionary concept can now be realised step by step. The presentation ranged from the cross-border plan for a hydrogen infrastructure to the national project responsibility of Gas Connect Austria and the challenges of financing.
Together with the TAG GmbH project H2 Readiness of the TAG Pipeline System, the GCA project H2 Backbone WAG + Penta-West forms the Austrian section of the SoutH2 Corridor. It will transport renewable hydrogen from North Africa via Italy and Austria to Germany, with the aim of supplying industrial clusters along the route with green hydrogen reliably and cost-effectively.
The SoutH2 Corridor is a joint project of leading European transmission system operators:
Snam S.p.A. (Italy), TAG GmbH, Gas Connect Austria (Austria) and bayernets GmbH (Germany).
In addition to aspects such as the reallocation of existing lines in terms of sustainable infrastructure use, Stefan Königshofer also looked at the preliminary stages of financing. In particular, he discussed “inter-temporal cost allocation”, which provides for the distribution of costs over time and the associated attractive tariffs, and “usage-based cost allocation”, in which markets make a fair contribution according to their actual benefits.
With the H2 Backbone WAG + Penta-West project, Gas Connect Austria is actively contributing to the realisation of the SoutH2 Corridor - for a secure, climate-friendly energy future for Europe.
