Western route secures Austria's gas supply

Following the expiry of the transport agreements between Russia and Ukraine, the volume of gas imported via the long-distance pipeline in 2025 shifted significantly compared to 2024. Since 1 January, Austria has primarily been supplied via the West Austria Gas Pipeline (WAG) from Germany (94 TWh), as well as via the TAG system (11 TWh) from the south. Meanwhile, the Baumgarten gas station has retained its role as a transit hub to the south-east.
