Information on the current gas market situation

In view of the current situation we would like to inform you about the role of Gas Connect Austria and provide links to further information.

As a transmission and distribution system operator, we strive to ensure the technical availability of our infrastructure as well as the network stability to the highest possible extent for a secure supply. All our transmission systems are technically fully available and functional. At present, we have no indication of restricted gas supplies.

In case of supply bottlenecks, the responsibilities are clearly regulated. Depending on the situation, appropriate regulations and action plans come into force. Gas Connect Austria is very well prepared for possible scenarios regarding supply restrictions, both technically and in terms of personnel. In the event of supply bottlenecks, there are clear national and European regulations such as the Austrian Energy Restriction Act with the associated action plan and the EU's SOS (Security of Gas Supply) Regulation. Implementation is carried out in coordination with the market and distribution area manager AGGM and the relevant authorities.

As Gas Connect Austria is transporting gas at the highest network level, we notice irregularities or even outages immediately. Current reports on outages and restrictions are published as an Urgent Market Message by the market area manager to the market participants. Urgent Market Messages are available under this link.

A visualisation on our website gives an overall view of the daily physical gas flow and storage data in the CEE area and at selected entry/exit points. The data are taken from publicly available sources of ENTSOG and the GIE AGSI + platform.

  • ENTSOG, the Association of European Transmission System Operators for Gas, is an association in which transmission system operators (TSOs) for natural gas in Europe are mandatory members. ENTSOG operates the Transparency Platform on the basis of the members' data submissions, which maps entry/exit points in the European gas network, showing the current gas flows (from the previous day) as well as over time.
  • The ENTSOG Transmission Capacity Map (from 2021) provides an overview of the European high-pressure transmission pipelines and gives information on the technical transport capacity at cross-border points. It provides a compact and up-to-date overview of the existing gas infrastructure.
  • Another ENTSOG map is the System Development Map (as of December 2021) link: The System Development Map 2020/021 contains information on existing gas infrastructure and transport capacity in 2021. The data shown in the capacity matrix is taken from the ENTSOG Transmission Capacity Map 2021 (see above) and the ENTSOG Transparency Platform. The information on gas storage facilities was obtained from GIE AGSI+.
